British Clavichord Society sponsorships for young keyboard players

The British Clavichord Society has funds available to help one (or possibly two) students or young professional musicians to attend a clavichord-playing course at West Dean College, near Chichester, West Sussex, over the weekend of 28-31 May 2010. The course, Exploring expressive techniques on the clavichord, focuses on works by W. F. Bach, D. G. Türk and E. W. Wolf and will be tutored by Paul Simmonds, who has an international reputation as a clavichord performer, scholar and teacher.

How to apply for BCS funding

Obtain details of the course from the college via the link above or by phoning +44 (0)1243 811301. Check that there is a place available for you, and find out what your course fee, accommodation, travel and any other expenses would be (we will consider applications for full or partial funding).

Then send us a brief c.v. (without photos) and a letter of application saying how much money you are applying for and how you would benefit from the opportunity to study the clavichord. You need not necessarily have any experience of the clavichord, but we expect that successful applicants will already be studying at least one keyboard instrument. West Dean College does not accept students aged under eighteen.

Send your application to Judith Wardman (BCS), 26A Church Lane, London N8 7BU; tel. +44 (0)20 8341 4700; or click here to send an e-mail. Include the word ‘clavichord’ in the title of your e-mail.

Please apply as soon as possible. The closing date is 31 March 2010, but late applications may be accepted: for up-to-date news, please phone us or re-visit this website.

If you have queries about the course that cannot be answered by the college, or about your application for BCS sponsorship, please contact us, and we will do our best to help.

Other BCS sponsorship possibilities

We are also happy to suggest other ways in which we might be able to help young players wanting to study the clavichord, so get in touch with us if you are interested but are not able to attend the West Dean course.

We look forward to hearing from you.
